01The beginning

What inspired you to start SWISSFINEST?

Switzerland is known around the world for quality, yet I felt something was missing in the U.S. market: pure Swiss mineral water, naturally rich in minerals from its source. I wanted to bring more attention to it in America and build a brand that represents where the water comes from. I wanted people to discover this part of Switzerland for themselves. That’s how SWISSFINEST began.

02Behind the name

What does the name SWISSFINEST mean to you, and why did you choose it?

The name comes from my love for Switzerland. I wanted it to reflect the beauty of the country and the quality of its natural mineral water. It means a lot to me to share a little piece of Switzerland with people in America. I’m putting my heart into SWISSFINEST, and I hope people feel that care when they pick up a bottle.

03The water

There are so many bottled-water brands. What makes SWISSFINEST different?

Our water comes from the Swiss Alps and contains over 2,000 milligrams of naturally occurring dissolved minerals per liter. Those minerals come from the source; they aren’t added afterward. I want people to look beyond the bottle and understand the water itself—where it comes from and what is naturally in it.

04Building in America

What has been the hardest part of bringing Swiss mineral water to the American market?

There is so much work behind getting a bottle onto a shelf. You have to coordinate the source, testing, labeling, import requirements, shipping, storage and distribution. Then you have to introduce an unfamiliar brand to buyers and customers. Having a product you believe in is the beginning; building everything around it is an entirely different challenge.

05The FIJI Water dispute

What can you share about the dispute with FIJI Water?

FIJI Water, part of The Wonderful Company, is seeking to prevent SWISSFINEST from using its branding based on an allegation of consumer confusion that I firmly reject. I find it deeply troubling that a billion-dollar company would put this level of pressure on another water company. I still do not understand the full reasoning behind this action or how such a response is proportionate to the circumstances. The time, energy, and resources required to address this matter are being diverted from the company’s growth and operations.

In my view, this reflects a substantial imbalance in resources and bargaining power. A water company’s ability to compete should be determined by the quality of its products and services, not by its capacity to sustain a prolonged dispute with a much larger corporation.

06What keeps me going

What keeps you motivated through the challenges of building SWISSFINEST?

For me, one of the most meaningful moments will be someone choosing SWISSFINEST a second time. A first purchase can come from curiosity; coming back means the product has earned its place. I want to build that kind of lasting connection through the quality of the water and the care behind the brand. The possibility of turning something I believe in so deeply into something other people value is what keeps me going. That’s a future worth working for.

07Lessons along the way

Knowing what you know now, what would you do differently—and what would you tell another entrepreneur?

I would leave more room in my plans for things I couldn’t predict. You can research carefully and work incredibly hard, and still encounter challenges you never anticipated.

My advice is to think beyond getting your business started: understand what will allow you to keep it going. Know what you’re committing to, understand your costs and choose people who will give you honest advice, including things you may not want to hear.

Take your ambition seriously enough to question your own plans. The more you understand your business, the better equipped you are to make decisions that protect its future.

08The next five years

When you picture SWISSFINEST five years from now, what do you hope to have built?

I hope SWISSFINEST has become a trusted Swiss mineral-water brand in America, with a place in people’s homes and on the tables of restaurants and hotels. I want to build a business that can grow while preserving the quality and care that gave me a reason to start it.

To me, growth also brings responsibility—to customers, to partners and to everyone whose work makes the business possible. I want to build relationships that last, keep the promises I make and create opportunities for others along the way.

Five years from now, I’d love to look at SWISSFINEST and see how something that began as a personal dream became something many people helped build and could share in.
